A fall-front secretary desk of narrow proportions, constructed from mahogany-stained wood. The piece features a shaped gallery top decorated with a central inlaid marquetry conch shell motif. The two side panels are embellished with vertical stringing in a bellflower or husk chain pattern. The upper section contains a fall-front writing surface that opens to reveal an interior fitted with four vertical pigeonhole dividers and two horizontal shelves. The fall-front is secured by a central rectangular brass lock plate. The desk is supported by two side panels that extend to form the feet, with two open full-width shelves located below the writing compartment. A small brass knob is located on the exterior left side of the frame. No maker’s marks or labels are visible on the exterior or interior surfaces shown.
