This desk lamp is constructed from a repurposed vintage 2-gallon steel petrol can produced for Shell-Mex and B.P. Ltd. The body of the can is finished in red paint and features a large yellow and red Shell pecten logo within a white rectangular border on the front face. The top of the can is embossed and printed with text reading SHELL-MEX & B.P. LTD, LONDON, W.C.2, PETROLEUM SPIRIT, HIGHLY INFLAMMABLE, alongside a smaller Shell logo. A chrome-finished upright stem is mounted through the top, supporting a pale blue-green bell-shaped plastic shade. A safety label with the word CAUTION is visible on the interior of the shade. The electrical fitting includes a black power cord terminated with a standard United Kingdom 3-pin plug. A white adhesive label printed with REDUCED and handwritten with £55.00 £45.00 is attached to the front of the can.
