A vintage two-gallon petrol spirit can produced for the Anglo-American Oil Company Limited under the Pratts brand. The container is manufactured from metal with a painted red finish and features a fixed single strap handle. The top surface is embossed with a four-line inscription: PRATTS / PETROL SPIRIT / HIGHLY / INFLAMMABLE. A brass screw-on filler cap is fitted to the threaded aperture at the top corner. This type of fuel container was widely used in the United Kingdom during the early twentieth century for the transport and storage of motor spirit prior to the widespread introduction of kerbside petrol pumps.
