A Chinese hand-carved soapstone sculpture depicting the Ten Monkeys motif. The openwork carving features multiple monkey figures in various animated poses, clambering over one another to form a pyramidal tower. The figures are rendered with expressive facial features and incised texture to represent fur. The sculpture is fashioned from variegated soapstone displaying mottled tones of buff, grey, and pale olive green with a characteristic waxy lustre. The entire group is situated on an integral carved base.
