A Dutch tin-glazed earthenware (Delftware) tile, hand-painted in monochrome manganese purple. The central circular medallion depicts the biblical scene of the Calling of St. Matthew, showing him seated at a tax collector’s table with coins, being addressed by Christ and his followers. The scene is inscribed at the base with the scriptural reference MATE:9V:9. The four corners are decorated with stylised floral carnation motifs. The tile is mounted in a simple, dark-stained wooden frame.
