This large storage chest is of plank construction, crafted from pine, and sits upon a substantial stepped plinth base. The lid features a heavy, rounded moulded edge that displays a darker patination than the main body, suggesting either a different wood species or a concentrated application of stain. The chest is heavily reinforced with hand-wrought iron corner straps, secured by heavy-gauge nails. Each side is fitted with a thick, iron swing handle for transport. The front panel includes a simple inset iron keyhole escutcheon. A horizontal band of dark markings, likely remnants of stencilled characters, is visible on the front right side, though these are too faded and degraded to be legible. The piece reflects a traditional country vernacular style intended for utilitarian storage.
