A small secretary bureau in the George III style, constructed with yew wood veneers on a secondary frame. The piece features a traditional fall-front configuration which opens to reveal a fitted interior. The writing surface is inset with a green leather panel featuring gilded or blind-tooled borders. The interior arrangement consists of four vertical document pigeonholes, two central open cubby holes divided by a horizontal shelf, and a single small central drawer. The drawer is fitted with a brass drop handle. The exterior fall-front is secured by two brass hinges and a central brass lock plate. The lower section consists of a chest of drawers, of which two are partially visible, fitted with brass swan-neck handles and decorative backplates. The yew veneer exhibits a characteristic tight grain with bird’s-eye figuring throughout the exterior and interior surfaces. No maker’s marks, labels, or stamps are visible on the surfaces shown.
