A mid-20th-century rectangular commercial laundry transit case or delivery box, constructed from blue vulcanised fibre with dark brown reinforced edges. The lid features prominent white and light blue printed graphics. The top of the lid is marked with The Darleydale in script, followed by block lettering for LAUNDERERS AND DRY CLEANERS, SUTTON – SURREY, and the telephone exchange PHONE: VIGILANT 0925. The front side of the body bears the printed instruction SEND US YOUR DRY CLEANING in white block capitals. The case is reinforced with metal corner protectors secured by rivets. A portion of a brown leather fastening strap remains attached to the front. This item serves as a piece of local commercial ephemera from Sutton, Surrey, with the Vigilant telephone exchange indicating a London-area director system origin used between the 1920s and 1960s.
