A 19th century mahogany bow-fronted chest of drawers in the Regency or William IV style. The chest features a two-over-three configuration, consisting of two short drawers over three long, graduated drawers, all finished with highly figured flame mahogany veneers. The top is constructed with a cross-banded edge. The vertical stiles are embellished with distinctive hand-carved reeded or rope-twist decoration. The drawer fronts are fitted with turned mahogany pulls, each featuring a central inset decorative disc, possibly of mother-of-pearl or bone. Small inset brass escutcheons are present on each drawer front. The carcass is supported on short turned bun feet. The secondary woods of the drawer linings appear to be oak or pine. There are no maker’s marks or signatures visible on the exterior of the piece.
