A late 19th-century engraved nautical chart of the Society Islands, focusing on Tahiti and Moorea, published by the British Admiralty. The chart is numbered 1382 in the upper left and lower right corners. It features a detailed coastal map with soundings, interior topographical relief shown by hachuring, and two prominent compass roses. The main title at the top right reads SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN / SOCIETY ISLANDS / TAHITI AND MOOREA, noting it was compiled from French Government charts to 1888. A large inset at the bottom left depicts PAPETOAI & PAOPAO BAYS. Centred at the bottom margin is a profile silhouette of the island coastline. An imprint along the bottom edge reads London, Published at the Admiralty 21st Octr 1881, under the Superintendence of Rear Admiral Sir F.J. Evans K.C.B., F.R.S. Hydrographer and New edition 18th March 1891. W.J.L. Wharton C.B., F.R.S. Hydrographer. The work is an engraving on paper and is presented behind glass in a dark-stained wooden frame with a gold-coloured inner slip. No plate marks are visible as the margins are obscured by the frame.
