Start price: £10

Buyer's Premium:

A traditional turned hardwood police truncheon of the type used by British municipal police forces. The item is of one-piece construction, featuring a ribbed grip section with approximately fifteen concentric rings designed for improved handling, ending in a bulbous pommel. The main body of the baton is slightly tapered towards the rounded striking end. Faint impressed markings are visible on the main body just above the ribbed section, though these are heavily worn and are no longer legible. This style of plain wooden truncheon was standard issue from the late Victorian period through to the mid-20th century.
