A late 19th or early 20th-century side chair constructed from dark-stained oak, designed in the Carolean (Restoration) revival style. The high rectangular back features a central panel of hand-woven cane framed by elaborate openwork carvings of scrolling acanthus leaves and foliate motifs. The back is supported by barley-twist stiles topped with square-carved finials, below a crest rail with a central foliate design. The rectangular seat contains an inset cane panel within a frame decorated with incised carving. The chair is supported by barley-twist front legs and a matching front stretcher, with square-section rear legs. A handwritten inventory or lot number 16 is visible in yellow pigment on the reverse of the lower back rail.
