This pair of anthropomorphic ceramic figurines is identified as Annabel and Baby, two characters from the iconic promotional series produced for National Westminster Bank (NatWest) beginning in the early 1980s. Attributed to the Wade Potteries and designed by sculptor Alan Maslankowski, these items were commissioned as money boxes for the bank’s youth savings accounts. Annabel is depicted in a school uniform including a green pleated pinafore, white blouse, and a yellow and green striped necktie. The Baby figurine is shown seated in a white textured nappy secured with a blue safety pin. Both are executed in glazed ceramic with a high-gloss polychrome finish. No maker’s marks are visible in the provided image, however, the designs are distinctive to this series.
