This lot consists of a pair of vintage two-gallon petroleum spirit cans, identified by printed marks as Ready-Cans distributed by Shell-Mex & B.P. Ltd. These cans are characteristic examples of British automobilia from the early to mid-20th century, used as portable fuel containers before the widespread adoption of modern forecourt pumps. Both containers feature the standard rectangular format with top-mounted carrying handles and screw-top filler necks. One can displays partially legible red printed text on the front face reading Petroleum Spirit, Highly Inflammable, Ready-Can, and Shell-Mex & B.P. Ltd. One can retains a red screw-cap. The cans are constructed from steel.
