A vintage telephone seat, also commonly known as a gossip chair, designed in the Rococo Revival style. This piece, dating to the mid-to-late 20th century, is constructed from mahogany stained hardwood. It features a single integrated seat with an adjacent side table. The chair portion has a high, shaped backrest with a carved scrolling crest rail. Both the seat and back are upholstered in deep burgundy velvet, with the backrest featuring button-tufting. The upholstery is finished with a border of brass-toned nailhead trim. The attached side table has a flat top surface and a single drawer. The drawer front is decorated with carved scrollwork and features an ornate cast metal drop handle with a foliate backplate. The entire unit is supported by four cabriole legs, with the front legs featuring carved foliate motifs at the knees. No maker’s marks, labels, or stamps are visible on the exterior of the piece.
