An early 18th-century style walnut chest-on-stand base or lowboy. The piece features figured walnut veneered drawer fronts with cross-banded borders and light wood stringing. The drawer configuration consists of four drawers, with two central short drawers flanked by two deeper side drawers. All drawers are fitted with brass butterfly-style backplates and drop handles. The unit is supported on four cabriole legs terminating in pad feet, which are joined by a decoratively scalloped apron. The top surface includes a stepped moulding, suggesting the item originally served as the base section for a larger chest or cabinet. No maker’s marks or labels are visible.
