A contemporary rustic box settle or garden storage bench constructed from softwood, possibly pine. The design features a high backrest with sixteen vertical slats positioned between a broad top rail and a mid-rail, flanked by two flat, slightly flared armrests. The base is of enclosed box construction with vertical planked sides and front panels. The seat is formed of horizontal planks and functions as a hinged lid providing access to a large internal storage compartment. The entire piece is finished in a white paint, intended to have a distressed appearance or weathered through use. No maker’s marks or labels are visible.
