The piece features a sloping desktop with an integral pencil groove and a circular inkwell aperture to the upper section. The desk is supported by shaped side panels with decorative curvilinear cut-outs that transition into the seat supports. The entire assembly is joined by a continuous low-level wooden base frame. The design and construction are consistent with the style of educational furniture manufactured by firms such as George M. Hammer and Co. Ltd. of London, though no maker’s marks are visible.
