This lot comprises two vintage glazed ceramic beer steins, also known as humpen, representing European breweries. The first stein features branding for the French brewery Kronenbourg, based in Strasbourg. It is decorated with a blue transfer-printed heraldic crest depicting two lions rampant flanking a shield with a stylized castle or city gate, topped by a crown. The brewery name is printed below in a blue gothic-style blackletter font. The second stein is for Dinkelacker Biere from Stuttgart, Germany. It displays a multi-coloured transfer-printed logo consisting of a red shield with three golden wheat stalks above a dark blue shield containing the gold initials CD. The text DINKELACKER BIERE is printed in black block capitals with AUS STUTTGART in red below. Both items are constructed from off-white glazed pottery and feature a standard cylindrical form with a moulded base rim, typical of mid-to-late 20th-century promotional breweriana.
Condition report:
The steins are in good vintage condition overall. The Kronenbourg stein shows significant blue pigment smearing and staining around the interior upper rim, likely occurring during the original manufacturing process. The Dinkelacker stein exhibits minor surface scuffing and typical shelf wear to the base rim consistent with age and use. No chips or cracks are visible upon inspection.
