Buyer's Premium:

A substantial salt-glazed stoneware pitcher or master stein, executed in the traditional German Westerwald style. The vessel is of tapered form with a wide, flared base and a large, ornate handle. It is fitted with a domed pewter lid featuring a decorative scrolled thumbpiece. The body is decorated with elaborate high-relief moulding, with a central frieze depicting classical or allegorical figures set within arched cartouches and separated by architectural pillars. Above and below this band are decorative borders of foliate scrolls and floral swags, while the base features a repeated gadrooned motif. The decoration is picked out in cobalt blue against a grey-cream salt-glazed ground. No maker’s marks or backstamps are visible in the provided imagery.

Condition report:

The item appears to be in good overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs to the ceramic body. The pewter lid shows a natural dark aged patina consistent with its age and material.
